If you were asked to "sum" me up in a couple words, would you know which words to choose?
Years go by, events change the course of our lives. Essentially, people change. But how many of our core values or perceptions of the world stick with us throughout our trials and our never-ending errors? So I asked myself what words define me and I gave it a good, long thought.
I AM: family, art, ASPCA, community service, selective determination, and marine biology.
Why I go home:
I have a kick ASS brother
a sister who keeps me laughing and is already blowing my mind with her artistic ability
and my youngest sister who melts my heart when she merely smiles at me
So everyone who's anyone knows that I love love love marine sciences. If you know this tidbit of information, I assume it's vital to know that octopi, cuttlefish, and jellyfish are my weakness.
The annual iron pour is coming up FAST (next weekend) and upper level sculpture students are required to be involved. We were offered the chance to use our iron pour project as a regular sculpture piece. Guidelines for our project are buoyant, floating, etc. so I decided I would make an octopus! Here are some pictures of my finished wax mould. Next time we see those tentacles they'll be iron!
Before I gated it
I am my biggest critic and I usually feel negatively toward most of my finished pieces...true, I am "the imperfectionist" but usually my imperfections are intentional. Contrary to most of my works, I am very happy with this piece so far. It gave me hell the last few days I worked on it, especially the night before it was due: I got far enough that I could see the light at the end of the tunnel but I was putting the last vent on and it fell apart! Every single vent fell off and three legs even fell apart and one actually broke. All I could do was cry a little, drink a beer, and get back to work. I ended up having to stay up 'till 6 that morning and had to get up two hours later to be in class on time. All in all, I pulled myself together and got my shit done.
after gating, completely finished
